The Shoe Frenzy

The New York Times has voluminous documentation of Iraqis' reactions to the shoe frenzy.

Perhaps the most interesting and appalling aspect of "the shoe frenzy," to me, is the nonchalance and insouciant reaction of the general American citizenry in regard to the sophomoric treasonous comments made on blogs and posted as responses to OP/ED columns.
Under the protection of anonymity, writers spew their treasonous and idiotic comments - wildly un-checked by moderators and viewed by readers with a ho-hum. On Jay Bookman's blog, for one example, there are several comments that include regrets the shoe was not a bullet or IED - quipping that an IED would have made it's target.

Without going into the free speech argument, any proud American should not wish such doom to any elected official, no matter what their disagreements or ideological persuasion.

I also won't begin to argue why the assassination of any President would be catastrophic on countless levels - especially if that assassination were in Baghdad.
Shame should be brought upon these commenters, as they will likely get away with their treason. However, this may be one instance where I would love to see the Patriot Act root out their IP address and give them a nice thorough investigation.
